For her work in horror movies and television, she was deemed a horror queen by the media. She gained fame for playing Marnie Michaels on the HBO comedy drama Girls that aired between 2012 and 2017. The role garnered nominations from the Critics' Choice Awards. Rose Armitage played by her in the film Get Out was a breakthrough performance that garnered her nominations, among other awards from the MTV Movie Awards (2017) as well as the Screen Actors Guild Awards (2017).
