Gerina first started golfing at the age of 15. Gerina attended Goddard High School for her high school education. She won the New Mexico State Golf Tournament in her high school years. She also had her volleyball skills recognised at a national stage. The year 2003 was the time she was enrolled in the University of Texas. She was the only winner of all competitions she participated in during her final years. During the undergraduate seasons, she won as the conference's best player of year, as well as UTEP's Female Athletic Champion of the Year.
